Abstract:

The article is devoted to the analysis of the Etude-Tableaux in E-flat minor op. 39 № 5 by S.V. Rachmaninoff. The author analyzes the genesis of the composer´s piano style, features of the Etude-Tableaux genre and through this analyzes the Etude-Tableaux in E-flat minor. The author concludes that this piece combines a melody characteristic for Russian music and original Rachmaninoff’s harmony. The character of the Etude-Tableaux is a reflection of the sentiment prevailing in society in the revolutionary 1917 year. Etude-Tableaux in E-flat minor is one of the most complex and dramatic etudes by Rachmaninoff. It requires the pianist to have serious technical training, the skills of "singing" on the instrument, awareness and transmission of artistic intent.
